Scott O. Reed concentrates his practice on insurance and reinsurance coverage issues with an emphasis on directors’ and officers’ liability, lawyers’ malpractice, general liability, fidelity, health care professional liability, environmental liability, and architects and engineers liability, as well as other miscellaneous professional, life, fiduciary and employment practices liability insurance. He has litigated and arbitrated in both state and federal court, with considerable experience before appellate courts.

Mr. Reed has briefed over forty appeals in state and federal courts in Illinois, Wisconsin, California, Pennsylvania and Maryland, many involving declaratory judgments over insurance issues. Most recently, Mr. Reed successfully argued on behalf of Royal Indemnity Co. in Krueger Int’l, Inc. v. Royal Indem. Co., No. 06-2611, Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, April 9, 2007, where the Seventh Circuit affirmed an entry of summary judgment for the insurer in a $5.3 million employment practices coverage case. Mr. Reed is a member of the trial bar in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and chair-qualified as an arbitrator in the mandatory court-annexed arbitration programs in the Circuit Courts of Cook and DuPage Counties. He also is admitted to practice before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third and Seventh Circuits and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of Indiana, the Western District of Michigan and the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

Prior to joining Reardon Golinkin & Reed, Mr. Reed was a partner with the Chicago firm of Pretzel & Stouffer, Chartered, and special counsel with Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold. After beginning his legal career as an administrative attorney and law clerk for the Illinois Appellate Court, he then joined the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, the administrative arm of the Illinois Supreme Court. In that capacity, Mr. Reed was Illinois’ chief judicial education officer, holding principal responsibility for organizing the state’s continuing judicial education programs. He also served as the staff liaison to judicial study committees and drafted court rules and commentary.

Mr. Reed completed his undergraduate studies in history and mathematics at the University of North Wales and the University of Illinois, receiving a B.A. in 1976. He was an intern for U.S. Representative Robert H. Michel, House Minority Whip, in 1976. Mr. Reed earned his J.D. in 1980 from the University of Illinois College of Law, where he was a Dean’s List student, a Harno Fellow, and a recipient of the McRoberts Memorial Law Scholarship.
